Season Opener against Bonnyrigg White Eagles. Date: Saturday February 27th 2010.

Venue: Bonnyrigg Sports Stadium

South Coast Wolves played Bonnyrigg away at Bonnyrigg Stadium in the first game of the NSW Premier League season and in humid, hot conditions the visitors went down 2-1 to a determined and experienced side.
Wolves grabbed an early goal when Andrew Keep was bought down by Bonnyrigg captain Paul Cottee in the penalty box. Cottee was sent off for the offence and Andrew Paine slotted home a well struck penalty.  After 15 minutes the game looked well in hand for the South Coast Wolves who at the time were dominating the midfield with sharp, crisp passing.
Bonnyrigg sat back playing deep trying to find composure, when against the run of play they were awarded a free kick between the penalty box and the sideline.  Jamie McMaster whipped the shot in and Wolves captain Lisandro Berbis neatly potted a glancing header past keeper Brody Crane for an own goal . Score 1-1.
The next 14 minutes were decisive for the Wolves as it was the opportunity to capitalise on the one man advantage. Unfortunately a free kick awarded just outside the Wolves box was struck top corner by dead ball specialist Daniel Severino and Wolves were down 2-1 at the break.
The second half was predictable as Bonnyrigg protected their lead by sitting back and slowing the play down. Coach Trevor Morgan replaced Andrew Keep with Keiran Deane, while Tayfun Buyukopporu was substituted for Mark Piccolini, but sub Piccolini was red-carded shortly after for what was judged as a studs up tackle. The match was now 10 V 10.
The remainder of the game saw chances at both ends missed and a final flurry of attack on the Bonnyrigg goal by Wolves proved unsuccessful. The game finished  2-1 to Bonnyrigg.
Trevor Morgan said “A game we could’ve won, but in 14 minutes we went from 1-0 up against 10 men to 2-1 down. We dwelled on the ball a little and didn’t capitalise on our advantage. I asked the boys at half-time not to panic, to play football right to the end, but we need to improve on our awareness and organisation. We had plenty of chances so the boys shouldn’t be discouraged, in time their quality will come through, they will become more composed” Morgan said.

In the Youth Grade game Wolves also went down 2-1. A disallowed goal for the Wolves plus a clear handball in the Bonnyrigg box made the game difficult for the team and the boys seemed to lose their focus and concentration. There were plenty of chances at both ends, but in the end mistakes at the front and back resulted in a loss for the boys. Our goal was scored by Conner Burke who made a good run into the box and finished clinically.
Coach Alex Prophet said “It was a typical first game away from home – scrappy with the team trying to find it’s way a little. We made mistakes at both ends and in the second half we could’ve won it easily.
I’m not disappointed and neither should the boys – we played good football and it was a good first effort,” he said.
