Wolves Youth Grade were paid a visit on Sunday by sponsor Arun Jagatramka,  CEO of Illawarra coking coal miner  Gujarat NRE. The team showed their appreciation for his support with a solid 3-1 win over the Rockdale City Suns and now sit just outside the top 5.

With  Under 20’s coach Alex “Prof” Prophet  unwell at home, it took a little time for the team to get started. They were caught out at the back early in the first half and Rockdale put one past the keeper.
This spurred the boys into action and with a good crowd in the stands enjoying the Sunday sunshine the boys moved into top gear. Jared Fish broke into the penalty box with a jinking run and knocked the equaliser into the net. A great reward for the striker who has just returned after 3 months injury.
It was not all one way traffic and Rockdale troubled the defence with numerous shots on goal, however , undeterred the boys pushed on and were awarded a penalty when Tugay Calek was bought down in the box by a clumsy tackle. Connor Burke, also returning from 6 weeks on the sideline injured, stepped up and confidently struck the ball into the right hand corner.  2-1 at the break.

Rockdale came out in the second half determined to take away some points and attacked tenaciously. Wolves remained patient and composed, passing and holding possession with great skill. They were again rewarded mid-half when man of the match Kyle Hazebroek, pounced on a midfield error by Rockdale. He took a few touches and with acres of space and time at his disposal, drove the ball into the top left corner past a diving keeper. With the score now at 3-1 it was up to Rockdale to chase the game, but Wolves had the advantage and never looked like losing it. Stand-in coach Glenn Fontana was suitably impressed “When you hold possession and control the game, it makes it very difficult for the opposition – a great win at home and a good example of quality football” he said.

Wolves would also like to thank Arun, his family and friends who attended the game for their support of the team. We hope to see them at a few more games cheering the Youth Team on.

Finally, from all the boys and staff at Wolves........ “Prof, get well soon”.
